Here’s a scenario:

I am on a website with a lot of software listings - and I do a search for “BlackBerry.” No results come up, so I open another window and go do a different shareware repository. What is waiting at this second window - but an add targetting “Blackberries” - directing me to go to eBay and buy one.

The companies are completely separate entities, and the only link between them is that they both use Google AdWords to generate revenue. The AdWords ad was the ad that was telling me to go to eBay to buy the blackberry…

Oh - and much to my dismay - there is absolutely nothing blackberry related on either site - except for my search at the first site (I had not done anything except load the second site when the ad appeared).

Google is either

• Stalking me, and tracking my viewing habits across different websites based on my IP - and then presenting me with targeted ads regardless of the content of the site I am viewing
• Very stupid and presenting ads that are not at all related to the content of the site, and just happened to correspond with what I was searching for on another site moments earlier.
