Google is dumb. Here is what they said to me earlier today when I was doing a search:
… but we can’t process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected. We’ll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we’ll see you again on Google.
Google
Error
We’re sorry…
Given the fact that every computer on this network is a Mac running OS X, and that there are absolutely NO viruses or spyware for OS X - I wonder what kind of crack Google is smoking. Maybe it should check what operating system the user is using before making such stupid assumptions.
Of course, Google is on my “Companies I’m starting to hate” list recently… so maybe I’m easily offended by them.

I know what you mean. I use Google many times, every day, but lately, their rampant expansion has given them a kind of arrogance. Everytime I hear of a new Google offshoot I think ‘can’t those guys just chill out?’

You guys must know stuff about Google that I don’t. So far, I’ve really enjoyed watching them buy in to technologies for no apparent reason. It seems like a fun model for a company that wants to keep innovating. If it weren’t for that they’d soon become the has-been company that once upon a time changed the face of internet search and free email.
Besides, who was the one that tried to get a job with Microshaft?

Paul, I think you’ve been at Stanford too long!
[Explanation for the uninitiated: Google was started at Stanford]

I agree with Paul. Google has spent tons of money on pointless projects that will only (they hope) create an image other than what Microsoft has recieved (mean older brother) due to its large stature. I guess from reading this blog I have come to realize that no matter what google does, the bigger they become, the more is expected, the bigger they are hated.

Ryan, I got my information from completely unbiased sources. I hear all of my news either from the “What would Google do?” club on campus, or from Google News. If Google isn’t really so saintly, I think I’d be the first to know.
It is pretty amazing to think that the two billionaires, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, were taking classes here only seven or eight years ago, living in the dorms.
