We recently started a new category: Ugly Knitted Thing of the Week.
The Ugly Knitted Thing of the Week will be updated weekly by Nicole Gardner – an avid knitter with an uncanny ability to detect ugly knitted things on the internet. The image that goes along with this post isn’t technically ugly – more cute – but it’s provided to give you an idea of what knitted objects look like.
If you have an idea for a new category you would like to see on RyeBlog, feel free to submit it to me via one of the comments. If I like the idea, I might give you an account and let you have at it.

UGLY!? How dare you insult the master with such lies. Take it back Master Gardner, take it back!
Okay, so maybe avid is a strong word, but I did just start to knit and was wondering why knitting always gets a bad rap because there’s some pretty things that can be made by knitting and it requires skill to do some of the more detailed projects. And usually old ladies are the ones who do most of the knitting, and we all love old ladies, so why not the knitted things they make? Then I started looking on the internet for patterns of things to knit and found more than one reason why people think knitted things are tacky. There were so many that they really needed to be categorized and shared with others. Does this subvert my mission to make knitting cool and perpetuate the stereotype about knitted things? Perhaps. But some things just beg to be laughed at over the magic of the internet.
