Anyone who knows me knows that I love Free Cone Day, and I love telling people about Free Cone Day… So last night before I went to bed, I posted a link to the press release describing Free Cone Day to digg.com - and I posted a link in the comments telling people where to go in order to find out if their local scoop was participating…
At around 9:00 AM the story made it to the front page of Digg, and millions of people started heading to www.benjerry.com. Ben & Jerry’s may have been ready to serve ice cream to over a million people today, but their web servers weren’t ready to handle the traffic… and they were dead for almost an hour.
Sorry Jerry. I would apologize to Ben, but everybody knows that he doesn’t really do much with the company anymore…
In any case - be sure to enjoy Free Cone Day while it lasts. Their website is back up and running now. We can all be happy now.

Happy Free Cone Day! I’m glad you spread the word to more people. It should be a national holiday. I’m slowly starting to suspect that Ben and Jerry’s scoop shops aren’t crazy about letting people know Free Cone Day is coming up. When I looked it up on the website last month it was almost impossible for me to find the date for this year. If I hadn’t been specifically looking for it, I wouldn’t have found it. And did you know it is up to the individual franchises to decide if they want to participate? The one here on Grand Avenue is deciding to be a party pooper this year. How sad. Luckily there are several more in the area, and I will definitely hit at least one.

Wasn’t that place super stingy in the past anyway? (or was that a different one?)
I did notice that franchise thing. SLC airport, for instance, is particpating - but the place up at Sundance isn’t. Go figure. I don’t think any of them inside movie theaters are participating (A bunch of movie theaters in MA are listed as not participating…)
Sure, they probably lose a bunch on this one day - but if you are in it for the money you should not be running a B&J scoop shop. The philosophy has always been “treat the people right and the money will come…” (And the logical thing like - all of the new customers that will come in… all of the new flavors people will try.. etc.)
The place here in Provo is pretty cool. They hand out the 10% off keychains on Free Cone Day - which I appreciate greatly
I’m waiting for Aubrey to get back from school and then we’re going to go up to Provo for Free Cone Day…
