American Idol: Huh?

Before anyone accuses me of being one of those people who “didn’t vote, but still complains” let me tell you – that is not the case. I voted three times. Once for Chris, once for Taylor, and once for Katherine. My reasoning was: I don’t care who makes it through – as long as Elliot is gone.

I should have watched DialIdol.com – they predicted this outcome Tuesday night based on the busy signals… I should have seen that and then ramped up. Along with everyone else in America – I should have voted 1000 times for everyone but Elliot. I have no idea how his mom can vote so many times to keep him around – becaues seriously – he has a voice and a face only his mother could love. In this case, it’s very easy for his mom to love him because he looks exactly like her.

I’m not sure which makes me more suprised. The fact that Elliot was in the top two – or that Chris was voted off. I thought for sure it was the other way around when they put them up there. I thought “Chris & Katherine are the top two. Taylor is kind of a novelty so he’s #3 – and Elliot is finally going to get the boot.”

At this point, I don’t know who I want to win. I really liked Taylor at the beginning – but as time has gone on his “underdog” factor has worn off. I don’t really know if I could ever stand to listen to him for an extended period of time. To tell you the truth – I doubt I could listen to any of the finalists for an extended period of time… As long as Elliot doesn’t win, I don’t really care.

The contest became irrelevant when Chris was voted off. I highly doubt that the winner will be able to outperform Chris on record sales when he gets signed. I personally look forward to the day I can buy one of Chris’s albums. Who knows – maybe the whole “chip on his shoulder” for not winning American Idol can work with his kind of “angst rocker” image and sound he has been going for… If he had won – he would have been constantly in the shadow of recording legends Fantasia and Reuben. Who could ever hope to top them?
