CNN reports on recent results of a survey given by GMAC insurance, asking drivers some basic questions found on most written drivers tests. Based on the responses, they were able to rank states in terms of “driving smarts”. The results confirm what I have often believed… Drivers in Utah are stupid, although not as stupid as drivers in Rhode Island or Massachusetts.

Drivers in Vermont ranked #3 in the list. That’s probably because in Vermont, receiving a drivers license is like getting a Bachelors degree in Car Driving compared to what is required in other states. (I blame the #3 ranking on people from Rhode Island moving to Vermont and muddying up our results)

You are your own driver

Of course - just because you came from a stupid state doesn’t mean that you are necessarily a stupid driver. Those inbred hicks may be driving down the average score of your state.

My results: I scored 100% on the test on my first try.
Here is the link to take the test for yourself: http://www.gmacinsurance.com/SafeDriving/2006/

Post your Results - and don’t worry… I wont send a link to your insurance company. If you get any “wrong”, rant on why your answer was actually the correct answer…

I did the test — got one poorly written question wrong…

    7. When waiting to make a left turn, you should give the right-of-way to vehicles coming from the opposite direction: (Select one)

    a. Until at least two vehicles have passed
    b. Until dangerously close cars have passed
    c. Until all of the cars have passed

you do not have to wait until you cannot see another car!!!!!
if a car is oncoming but dangerous — why can’t you turn?

I hated this type of test in school too…
