My friend Melissa, who lives in Colchester Vermont, also had a baby boy recently (named Owen). She emailed me and said that Owen has been sleeping through the night since he was 2 weeks old (he's now like 3 weeks old). Man, I couldn't believe that! I hope that happens for you guys!

Rhett is adorable - Congratulations!
Marla sent me the link to your blog today and I’ve enjoyed taking the voyeuristic approach on catching up on your life : )
We won’t be in Utah until December – if you guys will be around for the holidays we would love to meet Aubrey and little Rhett.
So, does Rhett have a favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor yet? What Mac accessory would be developmentally appropriate at his age – 6 days old right? Hmmm . . .I’ll do some research . . . .

By the looks of it, I won't be in Utah until December, but can I come visit then? Hopefully Rhett will be much more fun by then...and I'd like to meet Aubrey too.

Joy - Aubrey is tired but doing better than before... We just got home this afternoon, and things are a bit more hectic without nurses around...

Fortunately, Aubrey's mom is here and she's a big help. Rhett is definitely pooping more than the "once for each day he is old"mantra...

Aubrey's getting a chance to sleep some here and there. With any luck she should be able to sleep pretty much whenever the baby sleeps from now on because her mom is around.

When you aren't sick you are more than welcome to come over. As you are more than aware - it's impossible to predict if Rhett will be doing anything more interesting than sleeping at any given moment... but sleeping babies are still cute :)

Thanks for your supportive comments. You two (well, three, I should say) are good friends :)

(Oops, I forgot to change the name above before submitting... this is Joy.) How is Aubrey doing? Are you guys able to get sleep? I hope so! That seems to be important at the postpartum time! We will call and see if we can visit maybe in a week or so when we aren't carrying cold viruses like Pace mentioned. Ryan, I enjoyed your spatula analogy very much! But I think the best thing you can do is just empathize or at least just pretend to empathize the best you can, because it's a hard time for a woman! I'm sure you're doing a good job; she definitely needs you.

You know what I noticed while we were there Ryan, they take GREAT care of the women, and I'm very glad for it. But they don't give a crap load about the husband. You have to have your wife talk to the nurse for you b/c she can't hear you, you're a husband. But I guess that's ok, we don't really do anything while we're there anyway, just read, watch tv and post on our blgos.

Thanks for the support. We'll be home this afternoon... Aubrey seems fine with having visitors any time.

It looks like the advice that the prenatal classes gave about how I should try to keep visitors away doesn't seem to matter to Aubrey.

They said for two weeks my job was to run interference for visitors so Aubrey could sleep... Perhaps they said that so that I would feel like I had a job - kind of like how when you are making pancakes you can make a kid hold a spatula straight up and down the whole time he's looking on - (even though you have no need for a spatula, let alone a spatula held vertically) - I think they wanted me to feel important.

Now that Aubrey doesn't seem to care at all about visitors and stuff - it's probably just a matter of convenient timing...

Of course - once we get her home and there aren't two nurses catering to her every whim (which whims, sadly, never include juice - even though she doesn't need to be the one to drink it once the nurses leave...) her feelings may change.

Rye,

I got a good laugh out of the shirt too. Its good to see you haven't lost your edge of cleverosity.

Anyway, I'm so happy for you both! Congrats... I would love to come down and visit when it becomes appropriate to do so.

His middle name is "Roy" - which is the same as my dad's middle name, and my mom's dad's first name, and my dad's dad's dad's middle name... so it has a lot of family history thrown in there.

I'm glad you liked the shirt, Joy :) I've been waiting a long time to wear that shirt on the way to the hospital...

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what color hair he has - I'm glad you like it :)

Nice shirt Ryan! What's Rhett's middle name? Cute baby you guys made. He has really nice hair and a good-shaped head. I'm glad you all survived; sounds like it was a lot of work, but look at your new family member!
