Only on eBay: 225 Acre Island near Fiji

Island for sale on eBay

I don’t even want to consider what the PayPal fees on this thing will be - but right now a 225 - acre Island is on sale on eBay. The island is part of the Fiji archipelligo, and is surrounded by a huge lagoon.

The island is valued at approximately $25 million - and apparently will be worth $40 million if someone finishes the resort that is being built on it.

From the pictures at the bottom, I learn two things. First - the roofs of the existing structures likely leak. Second - the island has been abandoned.

I was about to put in a $15 million bid, but Aubrey pointed out something important: The internet service there would probably be slow. That - I’m afraid - is a deal breaker for me.

Only on eBay: The $37,000 iMac G5

On eBay right now, there is an iMac G5 that 10 people have bid up to $37,000. The same seller also has another one that 5 people have bid up to $27,000.

From now on, whenever I sell computer equipment, I’ll be sure to list it in both the:
Collectibles > Arcade, Jukeboxes & Pinball > Pinball > Paper, Manuals
section, and also the:
Dolls & Bears > Dolls > Barbie Contemporary (1973-Now) > Pets & Animals

To clarify, I did ask the seller:

What specifically about this iMac makes it a paper pinball manual or a contemporary barbie pet?

The seller has not yet responded. I’ll be sure to let you know when he does.

OOEB: An exact replica of the Back To The Future Delorean

delorean
At first glance - this may seem like a foolish purchase. After all - who would want to own a stainless-steel sports car with a whole load of extra weight on the back of it… but for an avid eBayer, this could be your best friend.

Here’s the scenario. You spot an auction you absolutely must have - but the only problem is… it ends in 5 days. Sure, you could use auction sniper, or an alarm clock to remind you to bid - but a Laptop equipped with WiFi, a few banana peels, and a long straight-away could combine to get you to the exact moment in time to snipe the item. Once you place your bid, you can just go back in time and forget about the item.

Other than that, why would you ever want to time travel?

The eBay listing is certainly worth a look.

Oh - and to everybody searching for eBay / PayPal Codes for May / June… There aren’t any that I’ve been able to find. They don’t constantly have them out… they only have codes for certain months of the year. (After all, this is PayPal we are talking about!)

OOEB: A used Czech Mig-21 fighter jet

Czech Mig 21
For less than the price of a used US Military HMMWV (aka “Hummer”) a Chinese business man bought a used Czech Mig-21. The $24,730 jet was last flown in 1995, but - unlike old jets sold off by the US Government to museums and such - this jet was not decommissioned. In theory, you could get it up flying again.

The business man who bought it has no plans of ever flying the thing. He will use it as a showpiece.

To see more pictures, check out the Old Mig-21 eBay Page. If you want to learn more, you can check out the Wired.com news story about the sale.

OOEB: 13,482 Rare Comic Books

What do you do with 13,482 rare comic books - dating back to 1966? Well - some comic book shop bought such a collection (perhaps at an estate sale? I can’t imagine someone spending their entire life collecting this junk just up-and-selling-it) and now they are peddling it on eBay.

As you look over the vast collection of comic books listed there - just imagine the number of interesting discussions his wife would have had with him over this collection… Such as “Is there a way we can avoid taking up 1500 square feet of our house with stacks of comic books?” or his ocassional question of: “Honey - have you seen Charlton Horror #21? I thought I put it down right next to Dr. Skector #3… but I can’t fid it. I can only find Wolverine #4…” And imagine his rage when she responds “Oh, I thought you were done with that one, I put it in the recycling bin.”

You can view the Obscene collection of comic books on eBay…

It just barely ended, and the reserve wasn’t met. It was only bid up to $26,000 - and the “Guide Value” is $86,000… For those not familiar with eBay’s policies - if you list something with a reserve, you pay a big fee if the item doesn’t sell. The fee is based on the reserve price. So, this guy is out at least a few hundred bucks now just for his listing fee.

Only on eBay: An OBSCENE amount of GI-JOE items

GI Joe Jets
Some guy is selling about three childhoods-worth of GI-Joes. (see the next page for a listing.) If you ever played with GI-JOES as a child, I bet you can find the toy you played with here.

There are lots of pictures of this collection. If you have some extra cash on hand, the current bid is only around $6000… (which from the looks of it is about $10 per GI-JOE related item… so it’s a pretty good deal!)

Only on eBay: The “Evil” $2 bill

$2 bill
$2 bills are of special value to me, as most of you know. We have been using a $2 bill as the trophy for the Sheep Seekers tournament for a long time now, and never had any bad luck because of it. (at least not that I can remember.)

Some guy on eBay, however, thinks his $2 bill is evil. He gives some history of why every $2 bill is evil, but then also spends time writing about why that history is incorrect. For a $2 starting bid and $5 shipping, you can get your hands on this evil piece of currency.

He’s begging for your help:

PLEASE HELP ME ELIMINATE THE HAUNTED MYSTERY EVIL FROM MY TORTURED EXISTANCE. 2 DOLLAR BILL WILL BE SHIPPED ENCASED IN SPECIAL EVIL CONTAINMENT FEILD
CONSTRUCTED FROM PLEXIGLASS BLESSED BY THE NAZI POPE AND 100 VOODOO PREISTS.[sic]

I don’t know about you, but the special plexiglass case with the evil containment field might be worth the price by itself. Just spend the $2 and use the case to store your Microsoft install CD’s or something.

A Mini-Wheats box with a story to tell

This guy on eBay is auctioning off a Mini-Wheats box with an American Airlines plane on the front, and a 9/11/01 expiration date on the top. For some reason, this guy thinks that this box is worth $100,000.

Sure, he says that he will donate 10% of the proceeds to some 9/11 children’s fund - but I doubt that children’s fund will pay 10% of the $$$ that eBay will take from him when the item doesn’t sell. (The listing fee is determined by your initial price… this listing probably cost him over a hundred dollars)

I emailed him and asked him if he had it in Strawberry. Raisin just isn’t work $100 grand to me… but Strawberry… Yeah, I’d take out a mortgage for that.

Man buys his own stolen camera on eBay.

A German businessman whose camera was stolen was relieved to find the same model for sale on eBay. When it arrived after he bought it however, he discovered it was his OWN, stolen camera!

Given that this is eBay - he likely left positive feedback anyway.
