Drool on a Plane

Rhett with a big head

We’re on our way to Mexico, and are currenty in Phoenix. Traveling on a plane with a baby is certainly easier before they can move, say “dat dat dat” while pointing to things they want, and have the strength to pull the window shade out of its track.

Aubrey’s brother and his wife got bumped last night off of their flight, so they are on the same flight as us to El Paso. Party time.

Big Update…

Okay, it’s been a while. Time for a big update.

  • Moved into a new house
  • Rhett turned 1, started walking
  • Got a new job, am going to start next Tuesday doing Web & Application development for a company called “You Take Control” (Porter works there now)

Since moving into the new place, we’ve done a bunch of work already:

  • Replaced handles on all the cabinets
  • Installed new kitchen sink / garbage disposal / kitchen faucet
  • Installed under-cabinet lighting and up-lighting above cabinets
  • Removed strange light above sink, installed new light above sink
  • Removed the crooked and uneven tile from under the “dining room area”
  • Installed laminate flooring in the upstairs area
  • Picked paint colors, and started painting
  • Started running a quad-shielded coax wire to get a better signal to my MythTV box
  • Fixed leaking drain on one of the faucets in a bathroom
  • Fixed various sprinklers

Since it’s been so long, I figured I’d better at least put something cool to watch:

Round 3 of Rhett pictures is posted

Another round of pictures of Rhett are located here.

At his last checkup, he was past his birthweight. He’s now 9 lbs 13 oz. This makes it much harder to toss him to his mommy This makes him a little heavier to hold. (Especially if you are Grammie Gardner with twigs for arms)

More Pictures of Rhett Posted

I have posted more pictures of Rhett over on the .Mac account. The main reason I’m posting them all there is that it is so easy to just click in iPhoto - export to iWeb - and publish to .Mac. Easy is good.

Some Hilights this week:

  • Rhett went for his first walk. (In a stroller.)
  • Rhett developed more powerful lungs
  • Lots of poop.
  • Mommy is feeling a little better

Things we are looking forward to:

  • Sleeping through the night

I guess we could be looking forward to other things, but that is the one that comes to mind most readily at the moment.

Rhett is born…

Rhett was born yesterday at 7:38 PM. He was 9 pounds and 3 ounces. Here are some pictures of him shortly after he was born… He was 20.5 inches long.

In addition to the photos I have on this site - I used iWeb to publish a quick site that has more photos, a slideshow, and a few short video clips. Baby Rhett’s photos…

Baby’s still not here… :( Guess the Weight to kill some time

The Baby is not here yet. I hope by the time our next child is born, someone invents a tracking number and web site I can look up the progress on. Waiting for a baby to come is worse than waiting for UPS. At least you know what DAY they will come on…

The doctor told us he thought our baby would come this weekend, but of course - he couldn’t promise that. (Good thing he didn’t!)

To kill some time, we’ll have another contest for everyone to guess the birthweight. In the unlikely event of a tie between the guess and the birthweight, the one who posted first will win. If two people post the same guess, the one who posted second obviously didn’t read the first rule. We will only be measuring the weight to an accuracy of 1 ounce, and will be reporting the weight in standard English units. (i.e. pounds and ounces - not in kilograms)

Hiring Conversations

Hiring Conversations

I am taking a position with Vital Smarts doing graphic design work. When I was interviewing, I also talked to the IT manager about my computer skills, and I might help do some slightly technical stuff for the marketing department as well… For those not familiar with the company, they are the new big thing. Think Steven Covey, minus the numbered lists, and plus a bunch of techniques that actually work…

Their big consumer products are two books, Crucial Conversations, and Crucial Confrontations. In the non-consumer world, they do lots of consulting work with gigantic corporations. There is a lot more to the company than that - but that’s the two-second version of who they are.

I’ll start working there on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then once school is out (in a three weeks) I’ll be there full-time.

Happy 1-Year Anniversary to us!

The RyeBlog staff would like to take the time to wish a Happy Anniversary to RyeBrye and AuBrye. It’s been one year! Yippee!
Anniversary Photo
Thank goodness for traditional anniversary gifts, because all Ryan is supposed to give this year is Paper. Next year, is Cotton…

Does the paper have to be unused? Isn’t it more romantic if it’s old scratch paper? What if it is presented by scattering it all over the floor of the computer room? What if the anniversary present has been there since last finals week and has been hiding ‘in plain sight’ - wouldn’t that be romantic?…
